Honor Roll: Terminal Emulators with Proper Arabic Support

Arabic support in terminal emulators isn’t some futuristic dream — it’s been around for a while if you know where to look. While not every terminal gets it right, a few have consistently delivered first-class handling of Arabic script, respecting both the right-to-left (RTL) direction and proper character shaping.

Here’s the honor roll: GNOME Terminal, Cosmic Terminal, Konsole from KDE, the sturdy Terminator, and the sharp new Ptyxis. These terminals don’t treat Arabic like an afterthought — they render it cleanly, connect the letters correctly, and manage mixed-language text with competence.

It’s good to see that proper Arabic support isn’t limited to just one desktop environment or project. Whether you’re on GNOME, KDE, or something custom, you have real choices that respect the language without needing patches, plugins, or workarounds. Solid, practical, and exactly how it should be. I just hope to find a terminal emulator that would have the same excellent Arabic and RTL support on MacOS. The list of projects on this list is exclusivy working on Linux
