Introducing Perplexity Deep Research
So perplexity is introducing deep search to compete on this with OpenAI. That is perplexity trying to adjust itself to be focus on search and that was always their unique selling point over other LLMs. So now they feel like they will need to adjust for the competition. That would be interesting, they are marketing aggressively recently. They even have some agreements with other services and even ISPs. Let’s see how this goes. I will try it and see how it compares to Gemini. Maybe post a comparison sometime.
Key Takeaways
- Perplexity claims that it conducts thorough investigations, simulating human-like reasoning and refining its approach based on the information gathered.
- After evaluating source materials, it compiles findings into clear, comprehensive reports
- They also claim that It achieves a 21.1% accuracy score on Humanity Last Exam, outperforming several leading AI models. But I always doubt these benchmark results.
I don’t usually like the idea of LLM being responsible for these research complex tasks not only because of hallucination and effectiveness problems. But mainly because of how it encourages people to do poorly in the cognitive tasks. We need to train ourselves to conduct these complex tasks and it usually combination of knowledge and exploration is what allow us to do the tasks of research. So while I feel that I would like to test it I’m worried about the actual impact. But let’s see, I have no influence and I can just see and observe and maybe get some benefit from such thing.
