My aggressive site blocking
I stopped using Twitter for more than a year now. Before that I mostly stopped being active on social media in general. I had Instagram account but have never used it in any active way. Facebook was my oldest account at this point, but they moved with all other social media to focus and show mostly media content. I don't like that. I am a text person. I communicate better with plain text, this is what I want to do. I also don't want to follow all these daily news, living a live genocide is not something easy psychologically.
I tried last year to have a clean slate start with Bluesky as a new platform that I can use but shortly after I stopped opening my account.
I self-host AdGuard Home server on a VPS and use DoH. Also have AdGuard Home on my home router. I sync blocklists and settings between them. It provides a good list of services to block. Most of them are games (EA, Riot, ....etc.), Social Media (Facebook, X, ....etc.) and communication apps (WhatsApp, Telegram, ....etc.). I use this feature to block services. Today I added Bluesky to blocked services so I can now treat all social media links as parts of the world that is not accessible to me.
I have X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok....etc. on the blocklist. So if someone send me a link to any of these websites I can't see it without disabling filtering which actually add friction and I rely on me being lazy to stick to my decisions.
Also, my DoH is public so I can use it anywhere. I disabled plain DNS at port 53 to avoid DNS amplification attacks. But anyone is welcome to use it. But I aggressively block ads and have subscribed to several of privacy blocklists.
To use it with Firefox you can go to DNS settings and point it to
Or use any other DoH clients.
